Government Degree College (GDC) Kangan celebrated Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and a strong sense of national pride in the college premises. The programme was organised to commemorate the 80th Independence Day of India and to inculcate the values of patriotism, unity, national integration and responsible citizenship among students.

The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of the college fraternity, security personnel and members of the local community. The presence of distinguished guests from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF) added significance and solemnity to the occasion.

Flag Hoisting Ceremony

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the worthy Principal of the college, Prof. Sadaf Nazir. The unfurling of the Tricolour was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and National Song.

The ceremony was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college, students, ITBPF jawans, CRPF personnel and local residents. The participation of members of the security forces and the local community reflected the spirit of unity and collective celebration associated with Independence Day.

Welcome Address

Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, Prof. Sadaf Nazir, Principal, GDC Kangan, delivered the welcome address. In her address, she extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, faculty members, staff, students, security personnel and local residents.

The Principal highlighted the importance of Independence Day and reminded the students of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and national leaders in the struggle for India's independence. She emphasised that the younger generation has an important role in strengthening the nation through education, discipline, integrity, social responsibility and dedication to the ideals of the Constitution.

Guest Speech

The programme was honoured by the presence of distinguished officers from the ITBPF. Sh. Praveen Chandra Das, Commanding Officer, Adhoc CDR-XVI BN, ITBPF, Sanjay-26, and Assistant Commandant Ms. Alka Yadav, 46th Company, ITBPF, graced the occasion as special guests. The programme proceeded with a guest lecture by the distinguished guest, followed by a special address focusing on the significance of Independence Day, patriotism, national unity and the responsibilities of citizens in the development of the nation. The lectures emphasised that independence is not merely a historical achievement but also a continuing responsibility. The speakers encouraged students to contribute positively to society, uphold democratic and constitutional values and work towards the progress and development of the country.

Cultural Programme

A vibrant cultural programme was presented by the students of GDC Kangan. The students showcased their talent through patriotic and cultural performances that reflected the spirit of national unity and pride. The performances were well received by the audience and added colour and enthusiasm to the celebrations. The cultural segment also provided students with an opportunity to express their patriotism and creativity while highlighting India's rich cultural diversity.

Felicitation Ceremony

The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony, during which students who had secured positions and participated in various competitions and activities organised in connection with the Independence Day celebrations were felicitated.

Vote of Thanks

The formal programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amir Amanullah. He expressed sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests, Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, ITBPF and CRPF personnel, local residents and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the event. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of the college administration, faculty members and students for ensuring the smooth and dignified conduct of the Independence Day celebrations.

The entire programme was moderated by Prof. Mohammad Younis Thoker, who conducted the proceedings in a systematic and dignified manner and ensured the smooth transition between the various segments of the programme.
