Established in 2011, the Department of Environmental Science at Government Degree College Kangan was founded with a mission to foster environmental literacy among students in the pristine yet ecologically sensitive district Ganderbal. As an integral part of the college’s academic framework, the department strives to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical environmental stewardship.

- Waseem Yaseen, Assistant Professor (Permanent Faculty)
- Focus: The faculty member oversees all academic instructions, orientations, and the coordination of the college’s Eco-club (Environmental cell).

- Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC): A mandatory environmental studies module for all undergraduate students (1st and 2nd Semesters).
