The Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Economics, organized an Essay Writing Competition at Government Degree College (GDC) Kangan on 4 August 2026 as part of the celebrations of the 80th Independence Day of India. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students representing different semesters, reflecting their keen interest in national issues and creative writing. The theme of the competition was “Role of Education in Building Peace and National Unity.” Through their essays, participants highlighted the transformative role of education in promoting social harmony, democratic values, mutual respect, tolerance, and a sense of national integration. The competition provided an academic platform for students to express their ideas and strengthen their writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills. The essays were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising Dr. Mohammad Shahid Zaman, Head, Department of Economics; Dr. Aatina Nasir Malik, Head, Department of Sociology; and Mr. Bilal Ahmad Lone, Department of Education. The entries were assessed on originality, relevance to the theme, clarity of expression, coherence, and overall presentation. After careful evaluation, Seerat Jan of 1st Semester secured the First Position, Nazakat Ahmad of 1st Semester secured the Second Position, and Mudasir Bijran of 5th Semester secured the Third Position. The winners were appreciated for their outstanding performance and thoughtful presentation of ideas. The programme concluded with a vote of appreciation for all the participants and the organizing departments for successfully conducting the event. The competition served as a meaningful academic activity in fostering patriotism, peace, and national unity among students.
