In line with the directions of the District Administration Ganderbal—on 20 April 2026, the College Wellbeing and Anti-Substance Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Kangan, in collaboration with the NSS Units of the college actively participated in a padyatra organized under the aegis of the NashaMukht Bharat Abhiyan. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to reinforce the collective commitment towards building a drug-free society. The programme commenced with the assembly of students, NSS volunteers, and staff members of GDC Kangan at the college premises. The contingent then proceeded to the DC Office Ganderbal, where participants from various departments, educational institutions, and civil society groups gathered around 12 noon. At the DC Office premises, the participants witnessed a thought-provoking nukkadnatak (street play), which effectively highlighted the devastating consequences of drug addiction on individuals, families, and society at large. The performance served as a powerful medium to sensitize the audience and reinforce the urgency of collective action against substance abuse. Following the cultural presentation, all participants solemnly took the Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan pledge, reaffirming their commitment to abstain from drugs and to contribute actively towards spreading awareness within their communities. Subsequently, a padyatra (awareness march) was organized, starting from the DC Office Ganderbal to Kamariya Park and back to the DC Office. The march witnessed enthusiastic participation, with slogans advocating a drug-free society echoing throughout the route. The event served as a visible demonstration of unity and determination among the participants to combat the menace of substance abuse.
