REPORT ON AWARENESS PROGRAMME AND RALLY UNDER “SERVE BRICS 2026: VOLUNTEERING FOR A BETTER TOMORROW” IN OBSERVANCE OF WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY
The NSS Units of Government Degree College Kangan organized an Awareness Programme and Rally on 2 June 2026 under the theme “Serve BRICS 2026: Volunteering for a Better Tomorrow” in observance of World No Tobacco Day (31 May). The programme aimed to create awareness among students and the general public about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to encourage a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle. The event commenced with an awareness session in which NSS Programme Officers highlighted the serious health hazards associated with tobacco use, including various forms of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory illnesses. The volunteers were sensitized about the social and economic consequences of tobacco addiction and the importance of making informed health choices. Following the awareness programme, an anti-tobacco rally was organized. NSS volunteers carried placards and banners displaying messages promoting a tobacco-free society. The rally passed through the college campus and nearby localities, spreading awareness among the public and encouraging people to stay away from tobacco products. Volunteers raised slogans emphasizing the importance of healthy living and collective responsibility in combating tobacco use. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, faculty members, and students. Through this initiative, the NSS Units reaffirmed their commitment to community service and public health awareness in line with the objectives of Serve BRICS 2026 and the spirit of World No Tobacco Day.
