The Department of History was established in 2011 and enjoys the reputation of being one of the first subjects to be introduced in the College. Since then, various prominent educationists and distinguished scholars have been associated with the department who have graced the department with their devotion and hard work. They strived to upgrade and modernize the syllabus from time to time to make the subject responsive to the changing socio-political and historical developments and produce outstanding results among students.

The department offers three-year degree bachelor programme in History. The under graduate programme of History is designedto provide students with a broad overview of Indian History and allied areas. Its teaching focuses on World History, History of India and Kashmir with special emphasis on socio-economic and cultural developments. Since study of past provides a key to the understanding of future, the department aims to explore human experience in all its complexity and diversity. The classroom interactions of the department cultivate a range of skills like critical thinking and the ability to analyze several historical events among its students. Moreover, field trips to archaeological and heritage sites enable students to have first-hand information of their historical and rich pluralistic heritage.
